S07 Underworld Undertakings

T Shirts with Obscure Things
After retreating to their flat, the PCs do some more research and digging, establishing that the next GravBall game was on 068. Wombat rigged up the Life Sciences computer from the Calendula and discovered the Bluey was almost certainly not made on Collace and was probably made at a higher tech level than the local 12. Feng ordered a thousand T-Shirts with “Remember Joey” on, while Nevada located a successor - Avery - to that unfortunate youth, and after testing him with Pizza tasked him with finding Joey’s family. He then quietly visited his mother, Mrs Hopson, and gifted her the entire Cr750 taken from the Azalees gangers.

Feng had been checking archive articles and had identifed a journo called ‘Gutter’ Santiago as having written extensively on the scourge of Bluey up until a few weeks ago. She got in touch and asked him for a date; he suggested Zena’s Bar on the evening of 68. The 20 boxes of T shirts proved useful for hiding the cartiff loot, spare weapons and their increasing amount of cash in.

With Feng parked in Villery Plaza handing out ‘Remember Joey’ shirts for free, the rest bought tickets and went to see the match, Rangers vs visitors the Punters. Feng joined them just in time after shifting 261 shirts; they could be seen scattered all over the stadium. Already the PAN was lighting up with posts and arguments about what this phrase meant. Feng then stirred the pot by waving her modest chest at the drone cameras until images appeared on the huge arena screens, to considerable cheers.

The game itself was surprisingly rough, with players ploughed into the concrete on a regular basis. Sadly, Rangers lost, and opposition fans were already getting broken heads and limbs as the PCs left. The next home game was set for 082.

'Gutter' Santiago

That evening Feng met the journo, "Gutter" Santiago, in the bar, and immediately struck up some chemistry. It was clear that he had contacts, because he knew about the “Remember Joey” in blood in the carpark, something the police had not disclosed. He’d clearly been warned off writing about Bluey and taken the hint; by then it wasn’t really news anyway. She gave him one of the T Shirts, but when he asked “How deeply do you want me to investigate this?” she wasn’t sure of the answer.

By the time Feng left his flat the next morning, she had a name; Luther Kefaufer, though no real idea who he was. Wombat did some research, producing the blandest and dullest profile any of them had ever seen. The only snippet of interest was that Kefaufer liked a monthly casino night at the Hacienda in nearby Charter Hill - he’d been there 2 nights ago.  As he did so, he realized that he was seeing signs that some kind of alerts had been triggered by his searches.
I confess - I left the sheets with Charter Hill and the Hacienda behind, and had to drop in the detail that he’d only be back in a month to fend the players off from going straight over there. Doh...

Loslan Couner
Finally, they decided to fence some of the Cartiff haul. Though the gems would be less traceable, they wanted to be noticed, so they took what Feng had worked out to be around KCr10 of the lesser jewelry and - through Devel at Gueverra’s - made contact with one Loslan Couner. Meeting them in a flat in the dystopian Meadowcreek Pines, the gaunt and irascible Couner haggled over the pieces but eventually offered a really good price. Over the next few days, as they repeated the process, they figured that he’d clocked to the likely origin of the loot and was keeping them sweet in hopes of more.  On the way out Wales - his appetite for chaos getting the better of him - gave one of his high-explosive baseballs to a random incoherent druggie.

Finally, the bite at the bait came, and Couner directed them to someone who might have work for those interested in “Commodity Transportation.”  This led them to a roofless room in The Ruins, a wrecked building on the edge of town used for liaisons by gangers but not for residence by anyone. The experienced soldiers clocked the dozen or so heavies dotted around the ruins; exactly where they would have put piquets.

Call-Me-Ross
Meeting the recruiter, a calm and capable looking villain (”You can call me Ross”) they allowed him to ‘interest’ them in some transportation work.  “Smooth, let’s start you off small, see how your nerves are.” He didn’t move or say anything, but one of his heavies stepped into the room, carrying a small box 12” to a side. “Here’s a package. You don’t want to know what’s in it. Hire an air/raft, ride a bike, whatever works for you, take it to Carpen Arcology. Go to the Gharbor District, Bar Zelus on the Emfidstrasse, and place a fedora hat on the bar. A man will contact you and tell you where to leave the package. Do that thing and come back, and you will earn Cr7,500 for one day’s work; split it between your team anyway you like.” After some haggling, he agreed to Kcr10 between them.
At this point, the players had a mass “doh” moment. “But we’ve only got sombreos!” Wales had bought sombrebos just before the meeting with the Azalees, and left one at the scene. Much laughing!

Before leaving the city, they packed up all their valuables - including a literal Duke’s Ransom in jewelry - and stashed it in the drowned grav taxi they’d left in the sea before putting it back.
